Managing Director of the National Port Authority (NPA), Hon. Sekou A. M. Dukuly, has commended His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. for prioritizing road infrastructure and advancing projects designed to improve transportation, trade and economic activity across Liberia.
Hon. Dukuly made the remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction and expansion of the 1.9-kilometer road corridor linking the Gabriel Tucker Bridge to the Freeport of Monrovia.
Delivering the welcome remarks, the NPA Managing Director described the project as a major milestone in Liberia’s infrastructure development agenda and an important investment for port stakeholders, businesses, motorists and the wider Liberian public.
He noted that improving the corridor demonstrates the Government’s commitment to facilitating trade and supporting economic growth through the Freeport of Monrovia, Liberia’s principal maritime gateway.
Hon. Dukuly emphasized that the road connecting the Gabriel Tucker Bridge and the Freeport of Monrovia is one of the country’s most important transport corridors, serving thousands of private motorists and commercial vehicles transporting goods and services to destinations across Liberia.
He assured the Ministry of Public Works, the project contractor and other stakeholders of the National Port Authority’s full cooperation throughout the implementation of the project.
Delivering the keynote address, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. described the road project as one of Liberia’s strategically important infrastructure investments, noting its direct connection to the country’s principal economic gateway.
The President expressed appreciation to the Government and people of Japan for their continued partnership and support to Liberia, noting that the investment contributes to the Government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID).
President Boakai also appealed to residents, businesses and motorists for patience during the construction period, assuring the public that the temporary disruption associated with the works would ultimately result in safer roads, improved transportation and long-term economic benefits.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to modernizing Liberia’s road network as an essential component of national development, economic transformation and improved connectivity.
The official groundbreaking marked the commencement of the road project, which is expected to improve mobility along the Freeport corridor, strengthen trade facilitation, address recurring drainage and flooding challenges and support economic activity around Liberia’s busiest seaport.
Following the groundbreaking ceremony, NPA Managing Director Hon. Sekou A. M. Dukuly led President Boakai and senior officials of the Liberian Government on a guided tour of the BMC and LMC Piers at the Freeport of Monrovia, where reconstruction works are currently underway.
The visit provided an opportunity to review ongoing improvements to the Freeport’s infrastructure as part of the National Port Authority’s wider program to modernize Liberia’s port facilities, strengthen operational capacity and support the country’s long-term economic development.
