Service information

The Port provides coordination and emergency response support for actual or potential oil spills and other marine pollution incidents occurring within port waters, terminals, berthing areas, anchorages, and other areas under the Port's jurisdiction.

The service may include

  • Receipt and assessment of oil spill reports
  • Activation of the Port Oil Spill Contingency and Emergency Response arrangements
  • Mobilization and coordination of relevant response personnel
  • Deployment of containment and recovery equipment
  • Coordination with vessel operators, terminal operators, government agencies, and environmental authorities
  • Monitoring of containment and clean-up operations
  • Investigation and documentation of pollution incidents
  • Preparation of incident and post-response reports

The service is intended to support the rapid reporting, assessment, containment, control, recovery, and management of oil spill incidents in order to minimize risks to human life, port operations, vessels, marine resources, and the environment.

Oil Spill Emergency Reporting Procedure

The emergency response workflow moves from immediate incident reporting through assessment, activation, containment, clean-up, and post-incident investigation.

Current stage

Immediately Report the Incident

Any person observing or becoming aware of an actual or suspected oil spill shall immediately notify the Port's designated emergency contact point.

The report should include, where possible:

  • Name and contact details of the person reporting
  • Exact location of the incident
  • Date and time of occurrence
  • Source of the spill, if known
  • Type of oil or pollutant involved
  • Estimated quantity spilled
  • Current weather and sea conditions
  • Immediate actions already taken
  • Any injuries, fire, explosion, or other immediate hazards.
